The Railway
The Miniature Railway is an 7 1/4 inch railway which was built in 1992, 5 years after the Crewe Heritage Centre opened up by the Queen. Its an unusually line with 3 terminus stations all with turntables for the engine to turnaround on. The Total length of the railway is 600 yards, with two section of lines,
Our Main Station is Crewe Old Works with its Midland style canopy, the station is well decorated with signs and hanging baskets that brings the staion to life and is also the home of the engine shed where all the locos are stored.
Outside Crewe Old Works station, is a Crossing used quite often used by passing cars, the train passes over and makes a sharp corner to the left and heads north to our second station Forge End passing through a 30 Yard tunnel on the approach.
Forge End (known as our country station) is our second terminus on the railway where the engine runs around for the second time. On leaving forge end the train crosses over to our second section of line towards our 3rd terminus Midge Bridge, Passing the APT and our Carriage Shed on the way.
Midge Bridge is our 3rd terminus on the railway, passengers can alight here if they wish and visit north junction signal box and view the mainline trains from the balcony, the engine runs around once again and repeats the journey in the opposite direction.
On some days, Engines will not have to turnaround at stations as we use the top and tail method, meaning there is an engine at either end of the train.
