JOIN THE TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS

Today the MR is operated by enthusiastic volunteers who come down on a weekly basic to do restoration work and of course the fun bit of running the trains to passengers.

All the time we are looking for new volunteers to help us run the miniature railway and a lot of us say ‘more the merrier’ whether its on the MR or at the centre.

Any one can join the MR no matter what your age is but you have to obey the age limits when it comes to driving the train. If you are under 16, one of the MR staff will look after you if a family member is not with you at the time your on site. Also when volunteering with us, we want you to enjoy your time here, be able to learn new skills, make new friends.

You can be any age to do these roles

Guard

Signalmen

Station Master

Driver-

Diesel locos – 16 and over.

Steam locos – 21 and over.

When you start we will give you a volunteers booklet you must read and choose what role you would like to do, it has information about what we do on the MR, the things that are suitable to wear eg stell toe cap boots, overalls etc. You will also be given a set of rules for the whole site and the miniature railway.

A lot of the volunteers main goal is to become a driver when joining the MR but first you must be past out as guard first and complete a track safety test. Once passed as a guard we can then start training you as a driver but you must be 16 years or older to drive with passengers,
